This review is from: The Cement Garden (Vintage Blue) (Kindle Edition)
Having just read Sweet Tooth I was keen to read McEwan's early work. I found the Cement Garden hard-going. The subject matter (unsupervised incestuous children) was disturbing and, from a more literary point of view, the character of the snooker-playing suit-wearing boyfriend seemed very stereotyped. I loved Atonement, Saturday coming in a close second, and Sweet Tooth made me laugh out loud at the end and made me apreciate the book more than when i was reading it the first time. I would happily read those three again and again, but The Cement Garden - probably not.
