ArmA 2 Good & Bad,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: ArmA 2 (PC DVD) (Video Game)
I've been playing the original ArmA for some time now so i've been awaiting the latest offering: ArmA 2. As a keen 'real world' gamer this game is as close to reality as you can get. The scenery and noise are stunning (sometimes you spook a rabbit in the undergrowth and it runs around like mad LOL) and the AI is exceptionally good. However, to get the most out of these great features you MUST have a PC at the top end of the Market. I have a PC at the baseline for playing the game, but this is slow and bitty. My Specs are Core 2 6600 (2.4GHz) with 2GB XMS RAM and Dual Nvidia 7950GT's in SLI mode. I spent sometime adjusting and tweaking to get the best settings and when playing certain maps i get a good frame rate at a pleasing resolution.
The Campaign has some boring videos and briefings you have to listen to but once in the game the story rolls along nicely. There are different ways to finish each mission and outcomes can be different each time you play. However, if like me you prefer to make your own maps for some great battles in COOP mode etc then this is just what you want. The editor is somewhat difficult to navigate if you haven't used it before. But with some good Googling, a vist to BIStudio or even Wiki and you can find some good tutorials that once you've completed gives you a good overview of the editor. Once you've mastered the editor you'll be surpprised at how good you can become in making a map which provides you with a very staisfied feeling when you play it. My advice is to make the map hard and use some of the 'random' features otherwise you'll find it too easy as the enemy will always do the same thing. In ArmA 2 the AI enemy are a bit better at navigating than in ArmA so this adds better gameplay.
So overall a must have game for the Realtime FPS enthusiast - if you can afford some good hardware!
