One of my all-time favorite "Dr. Who" stories on DVD!,
This review is from: Doctor Who - The Web of Fear [DVD] (DVD)
Only episode 3 still lost. For many years only episode 1 and a few clips from the remaining episodes survived from this classic six-part adventure. I've basically been enjoying this adventure by watching the surviving material (episode 1 and clips) and listening to the audio CD. Now with episodes 2, 4, 5 and 6 being recovered, BBC video has announced that they will be releasing a DVD of the story in 2014 with all existing episodes and a reconstruction of episode 3. At long last we Whovians can enjoy this classic adventure visually, the adventure that featured the Yeti and the first appearance of UNIT commander Lethbridge-Stewart played by the great Nicholas Courtney.
A sequel to the currently lost "The Abominable Snowmen", "The Web of Fear" is a very eerie and action-packed adventure featuring second Doctor Patrick Troughton (my favorite Doctor along with Tom Baker, Christopher Eccelston, and David Tennant). The Doctor and his companions, Jamie and Victoria, arrive on late 20th century Earth in the London Underground only to find London deserted and the underground teaming with soldiers and Yetis - which are actually robots controlled by an evil alien intelligence known as the Great Intelligence. With a superb script and superb acting, moody lighting, eerie music, and great directing, this makes a very chilling tale with a lot of good action scenes added into it. I found myself both thrilled and scared while watching this. I think that even non-fans will like this one.
