This review is from: The 39 Steps [DVD] (DVD)
There have been a number of remakes of the original 1935 Hitchcock version of The 39 Steps and I believe that this, the 1959 Ralph Thomas directed version is the best.
Like the original film this 1959 remake is not absolutely faithful to the John Buchan novel but it is none the worst for that. For train lovers there is some
wonderful steam footage taken on the Forth Railway Bridge. The film maintains a sense of excitement throughout. There is also some humour which works well. For me though
the best reason to buy this version of the film is for Taina Elg. Taina plays the part of Miss Fisher in the film. Taina Elg was born on the 9th March 1930 in Helsinki, Finland
and she is simply G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S ! If she was still young and in films today she would be a huge, huge star believe me! Buy this, watch Taina and fall in love!
