I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It has action in spades, but not at the cost of good story telling. These sequences keep you gripped and you care about the characters involved. A lot of the ideas in this book are also clever. The kind of things any aspiring zombie apocalypse survivor has wished for in a zombie story, but not received until now.
My one gripe with Max Brooks writing, is his lack of characters. Each character in the book reads very American, regardless of where they are supposed to be from. At one stage, I quickly forgot I was rooting for an Indian soldier on a mountain road, because he could of easily been from Texas and fighting on the moon. This slightly draws you out of the story. This complaint aside, it is still a riveting book and well worth a recommendation, just don't expect a total change of character from story to story, as in books like Cloud Atlas, or other vignette style stories.
