Don't hesitate - the best TV box set money can buy,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Complete West Wing: Seasons 1-7 (44 Disc Box Set) [DVD] (DVD)
I sold all of my individual sets to buy this overview of every episode of the greatest TV show ever made, and I am not regretting it for a second.
Any box set bringing together seasons of the West Wing has an excellent starting point. And this new set does its subject matter proud, improving on the individual season sets in a number of ways.
For a start, it offers five hours of pretty excellent extras - documentaries, bloopers, deleted scenes, among other things. It is a shame there are no cast or production commentaries on any of the episodes, but the extras are all fine in themselves.
The previous packaging for the season-by-season sets - the card-based, expanding boxes, which show wear and tear and are darned unwieldy to open - have been replaced by slimline DVD cases, holding two discs each, all packaged within season-by-season slip cases.
The whole thing is packaged in an elegant, exceptionally compact box, which you would never guess holds more than 150 episodes of the best television money can buy.

Thanks for this review - it was particularly helpful to know that the expanding boxes of the individual seasons have been replaced with easier to use slimline dvd cases. Also helpful to know about the extras - but this particular review is the only one commenting on the packaging - and that's just what I wanted to know, before splurging and buying. Thanks Martin - it's much appreciated! And I'm buying!

Since this review the packaging has been improved even further. The outer fibreboard box now has each of the seven seasons in a slimline case that holds six DVDs in the space of a single full size DVD box, a slimline 2-DVD case for the extras discs and a useful 64 page booklet giving main casting and a brief outline for each episode. Even at its normal retail price around £100 the 44-disc set is good value, but at some offer prices around half that it works out a little over a pound a disc - that's staggering!
