I dont think i've heard a critic praise an Oasis album, apart from Definitely Maybe, and this is no exception. Slated everywhere, its almost a wonder it got to number 1. Except that is, your "average Joe" who just likes music, and doesnt care if it creates the most significantly moving moment of his life, as long as it sounds good, went out and bought this.
And theres a damn good reason why he did. It may not be goundbreaking stuff. Not much is anymore, but this album is fantastic. Everyone has gone through which song does what and this and that, so I won't bother. Special mentions however, must go out to Hung in a Bad Place, and Born on a Different Cloud, a sort of slow-rock epic. Even the little "filler" that is A quick Peep is brilliant, just 1:20-something of pure fun guitar.
And thats what music should be about. Fun, enjoying what you hear. I dont care if this song sounds like 2 songs from the 60's, crossed with an 80's one hit wonder, and mixed with a theme tune from a commercial. (If you've read Qmusic reviews, they analyse every stupid little detail of what a song might possibly sound similar to.) Music is music, if it sounds good, listen to it, and thats all I, and you, should care about.
