I'd be the first to admit that formulaic modern metal, with melodically sung out choruses and heavy growled verses is fast becoming the new 'nu-metal' so to speak. Riffs are begining to sound all the same, though they may be slightly on the technical side, and theres is lesser and lesser thought being given to overall song and album structure, with many songs being virtualy identical to each other.
However that said, although soilwork may be perceived to be one of these 'modern metal' bands and may be accused of changing their sound to suit the times, this album is quite in a class of its own. The riffs complement the vocals perfectly, and speeds vocals and vocal harmonies are quite exceptional. The production of course is as good as it gets as one has come to expect of any modern metal album, and the musicianship isnt too shabby either; a very tight rythm section complemented with some tasteful solos ('Nerve' and 'One With the Flies' in particular) makes for very good listening. Highly reccomended for metal fans of any kind.
