I first heard Buddy Guy on an old Marble Arch compilation album back in the early sixties. Then there was the stunning set with Junior Wells on Chicago/The Blues/ Today (now beautifully remastered and reissued as a cd boxed set). The guitar work on Vietcong Blues was just in a different league to all those ploddy British bluesbands. How could anyone get better than this?
Well, Buddy Guy certainly could! This latest album is stunning. At 74, he can play any other rock/blues guitarist off the stage - and we haven't got to put up with those embarrasing 'soul' numbers that were fillers on the early albums (Mary had a Little Lamb anyone?)
