This review is from: A Mozart Weekend (Audio CD)While the music is immortal, the conducting is a bit on the sleepy side, devoid of the pleasantry of life; the tempi are a bit on the lazy-side and without much "Mozart-Joy" compared to the wonderfully joyous Decca VPO recording with Boskovsky (also an ADD transfer...)
This originally an analogue recording by DGG has passed the torture processing of the Emil Berliner Studios, a processing that readers might recognized as 'AMSI-series' used for some Decca CD transfers with the same horrendous sonic results.
That this one is an Emil Berliner (disaster) is not visible on Amazon product picture or advertising page and it is not mentioned in the description of the product.
It is hard to grasp why distinguished recording label would subject the master-tape to such abuse; is it to make a product more appropriate for lift-escalators background music? because this is the end result you will listen to if you purchase this CD.
The decay-time and the all of the wonderful Vienna-hall acoustic foot-print is removed; the midrange is equalized to give it an un-natural accentuation which makes the listening to what should be an uplifting, happy-mood and spirited listening an unpleasant ugly experience.
