A really handy handcam,
This review is from: Sony DCR-HC35 Handycam Mini DV camcorder [ Carl Zeiss, 20 x optical, 2.5" screen, DV in] (Electronics)
Have had one of these cameras for ages now which I purchased from Amazon. The quality of both the sound and picture is great, and is pretty impressive when you play back the video on a big screen. The camera has a variety of settings including 16:9 recording, special effects, autofocus, night vision, and so on.
The camera records onto mini DV tapes in a rather traditional way. You are able to wind back the tape and watch what you have already recorded on the actual camera, which can be played through a lead [provided with the product] into a television. When it comes to editing, you will be required to play the entire tape while recording this on your software before being able to chop up and rearrange the footage. This is a great and easy way to edit.
The camera is near perfect with only a few faults. The night vision will only pick up a little extra than the camera would without it, and could be better. Another word of warning; it is very difficult to film on the spot as the tape needs to be in the right place. When you hit REC, it will record directly onto the tape in the camera, so if it was wound back, you will tape over your previous footage. It is important to have the tape ready in the right place.
Overall, a brilliant camera, especially if you are a fan of DV tapes. When you watch back what you have recorded on the TV you will feel like you are there.
