5.0 out of 5 stars Romance isn't dead., 7 Jan 2011
This review is from: Redwoods [DVD] (DVD)
I found it hard not to like 'Redwoods'. Not because of its artistic value. It's downright dribble. Core of plot is 'the other man's grass is always greener'. In 'Redwoods', the 'other man' is Chase (Matthew Montgomery) who stops at Everett's cottage to ask for directions. Everett (Brendan Bradley) is in an unsatisfactory relationship with Miles. When Chase meets Everett, Miles just happens to have left home for a week's holiday, along with their adopted son. With two steps forward and one step back, Chase becomes Everett's bit on the side. And of course, all's not well that ends well. Sorry, no further spoilers. 'Redwoods' is set in a northern Californian town. Everyone - read 'the supporting cast' - is overly tolerant towards Everett and his new lover Chase. They are - or rather 'act' - politically correct, up to a point it almost suffocates. But when together, Chase and Everett radiate 'a love so beautiful'. This stuck with me, for days afterwards. Brendan Bradley and Matthew Montgomery turned out to be well cast for their parts. They were able to let me in on their feelings and emotions. They conveyed they were comfortable with the roles they played. I think this an enormous asset to this below-mediocore production. I rate 'Redwoods' 5 stars for Brendan and Matthew's performances. Their portrayal of a tender and loving friendship was top notch. Glad to know romance isn't dead (yet).
