I would class myself as being a fan of a particular style of 'country' music, and it normally does not include what might be termed as 'main stream Nashville' Now you probably will not get anyone more main stream country than Garth Brooks, but that is no reason to write him off as being irrelevant. His impact upon both the country and pop charts during the 1990s was simply huge. He brought well crafted compositions' rock sensibility and showmanship to country. Not being overly aware of his work outside of this album (No Fences) I cannot categorically state that this is his best work, I simply do not know, but it would appear to be one of his most popular and successful. With compositions such as 'When Tomorrow Never Comes' / 'The Dance' / 'The Thunder Rolls' and Friends In Low Places' it is not very hard to see why. All in all a well produced and delivered set of songs, with some outstanding tracks and very few poor offerings. A good listen and an album well worth buying.
