I agree with everything this reviewer says. I also don't like to give up on books when I have spent money on them (£3.99 in this case). I didn't find any of the characters believable at all, in fact I found all of them very irritating and quite nasty, particularly Janine's parents and Marti (or Mart as her mother likes to call her!). I also felt quite angry when the author kept alluding to the fact that one of the characters might have an interest in 'kiddy porn' - a very distasteful and flippant thing to say about something so seriously dreadful! I have read one of Diane Chamberlain's books before (Necessary Lies) and I didn't really enjoy that much either. Not sure why I bought another of her books. The Courage Tree started off quite well but it just couldn't keep going in a realistic way.
I find her style of writing very slow and turgid, but then she will spring a surprise on you which is just silly and completely unbelievable. I have about another boring 50 pages or so to read (as I said I don't like to give up on books) but will be very glad when I've finished it and can move on to another book.
My advice to any prospective readers of this book is not to bother, unless you really do like to immerse yourself in such rubbish!
