This review is from: Lalo : Symphonie espagnole & Cello Concerto - Apex (Audio CD)
It's a good idea to gather together Lalo's de facto violin concerto (symphonie espagnole) and his cello concerto on one CD. However, the recording or transfer is so poor that I found it impossible to concentrate on the performances. I bought two copies assuming that my first copy was faulty but both CDs sound the same - recessed, muted, with a very narrow sound stage. Another Apex CD - Tchaikovsky / Rozhdestvensky - is only marginally better soundwise. So what's going on, Apex ?
