"I like it, and so does my wife",
This review is from: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - (Xbox 360) (Video Game)
We got this game as a post-Christmas time-off filler and it has been fantastic.
I (wife) did not like the rest of the COD series as they were, quite frankly, too blokeish and picky to be fun for me as an occasionaly gamer. COD4 is superb. The weapons and graphics are technically brilliant - detail everywhere. More to the point, the gameplay is engaging, action-packed and playable. The levels are varied and you do better if you play 'properly' - ie using your team and following orders. Playing as an SAS solder is absolutely every girls' dream and I love the way that the SAS are subtly better than the Marines (fewer in a squad, better AI, better squad leader etc etc). For me, the fact that you can play through on 'normal' without endless dying and trying again is a bonus. Graphically, it is unsurpassed. Assassin's Creed looks lovely, but the gameplay is rubbish. In contrast this game ticks all of the boxes, looking and sounding amazing. I particularly recommend this if you have a good HD, surround sound system at home. Summing up: I would recommend this game to couples everywhere, single chaps will probably buy it anyway! Would have been 5 stars, but for the length of play - the game pushes you through the levels quite quickly, but then, you don't hang around on the battlefield, do you.
I (husband) found the previous games unsatisfying as the weaponry was set in the past and I could not properly engage with the gameplay. COD4 gives you bigger guns, faster pace and satisfaction all round. The urban combat environment is convincing. Sadly, my team are frequently the victims of friendly fire (um). Fog of war and all that... It is better than Halo3, better than COD3 and much better than Black (on the old XBOX), which was my previous FPS wartime favourite. Her indoors likes it, which means more gametime for me. A must-buy.
