One Of The Best Games Ever,
This review is from: Vampire:the Masquerade - Bloodlines (PC CD) (Video Game)
I agree with the reviewer who said this is one of the best games ever made. It most certainly is. I've yet to find another RPG in which one felt so totally 'immersed', or one with such an amazing sense of atmosphere. The graphics are still amazing too......and its worth also mentioning the excellent music, some of which is actual songs by bands, such as the tune Cain by Tiamat, which plays in one of the bars in the game.
The 'Haunted House' mission in the game is, for example, the scariest section I can recall in any game I've played. Doom 3 is about as scary as the Telletubbies by comparison. The game makers managed to perfectly capture the lighting, effects, ambient sounds, etc to make the hairs stand up on the back of one's neck.
The game starts a little slowly, and really most of the epic stuff is in the latter 2/3 of the game where some of the missions are simply the best and most exciting in any game I've played. The plot, and the changes in it, keeps one constantly on one's toes.
The various town areas that act as jump off points for the missions are a bit small, but they lead on to mission specific areas that are considerably larger in many cases. So although there isn't a single large map and its all a bit disjointed, overall the gameplay area is quite large.
My only gripe is that one is forced to enter third person mode for melee combat, and the camera angles can be a bit of a pain. But overall, this is one of the best games you could spend your money on. Exciting, atmospheric, and fun.
