This review is from: All the Lonely People (Rafferty and Llewellyn Mysteries) (Hardcover)
This is the second of Geraldine Evan's books I have read based on 'plodding' Detective Inspector Rafferty and his Sgt Dafyd Llewellyn, he with the keyboard skills and keenness on tidiness. Alas I found 'All The Lonely People' as mundane as the first book I read.
Geraldine Evans's style for Rafferty and Llewellyn is slow and she spend much time on filling in(to me) boring details. I found it difficult to think that he was capable of solving a crime.
His errant mother and glamorous ex fiancee (Llewellyn's sister)are difficult to accept as real live people and why lively Abra would be happy to marry Rafferty is a surprise to me.
And what of the story? Rafferty visits his local pub and there is an altercation and a murder in the car park. The dead man doesn't seem a very nice man and all his family might wish him dead. And the dead man has a partner who would wish him dead as well and then there is the strange matter of this not nice man having a mistress for many years. All seemed a little far fetched to me.
And yet there is a gentleness of style of writing which appealed to me - my advice would be to borrow it from your local library!
Incidentally I did read 'Up in Flames' which is another detective story by Geraldine Evans and I found this much more pacey.
