Worth the wait,
This review is from: A Sword From Red Ice: Book 3 of the Sword of Shadows (Paperback)
It feels like I have waited years for this book. JV Jones writes enigmatic, evocative prose and entwines the tales of heroes and villains together in subtle ways. The story has progressed, the characters have developed and we have been told more about the powers of the Reach, the domain of the Sull and the Endlords' intentions. But the power of the story comes from the emotional turmoil of Raif and the issues faced by Raina trying to maintain her clan and her dignity. We are pulled also to sympathise with Marafice Eye and the Dog Lord and forced to see that all together face the impending invasion. The stoic Sull are almost saying "told you so".
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. About two thirds of the way through I thought "there is no way the story can wrap-up by the end of the book". A few pages in I thought "I hope this isn't the last book in the series". I am not stalking the Amazon search feature waiting to pre-order the next one. If only to see what Baralis will do next...
If you have never read any JV Jones, get hold of "The Barbed Coil" to get an idea of her writing style. If you liked it, buy everything else she has written.
