Sheer Brilliance. Mike Batt is a genius!,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Hunting Of The Snark From The Mike Batt Archive Series (CD+DVD Set) (Audio CD)
This is a masterpiece which many have never heard of.
It's hard to accept, when considering what must have taken years to complete, that it had so little exposure.
I was just lucky to see the original broadcast and to tape it onto my Sony C7 BetaMax.
I bought the cassette as soon as it was released and it has been played to death.
Now I am lucky to have searched at the right time and bought it via Amazon two weeks ago.
It is simply spectacular.
Following problem is that on my recommendation, and seeing You Tube clips, a friend and her brother both ordered it straight away.
Neither of their DVDs would play although the brother managed to play his on his PC, which is most strange!
This is a known problem, and I just hope they will sort it out, and re-issue, as it is very disappointing!

I may be the brother of your friend (Sue?)! I emailed Dramatico direct and they kindly sent me a new copy of the DVD disc. Lo and behold it played okay until about 40 minutes into the concert and then just froze and pixelated! I haven't the will to return it so I will try it on some different DVD players around the house and see if one of them will play it right through. Sometimes certain machines are more forgiving of a duff disc. I have several DVD's that play on some machines but not on others.

What a small world it can be these days. The story sounds very much like you are her brother but I don't know her as "Sue",
just by her chat name on another forum.
I've been waiting for her coming back to me with some hoped for good news but I'm guessing it was negative.
Such a disappointment for the both of you as this is just the most outstanding performance of a real masterpiece!
She did say that her brother got it to play on a PC but enjoyable it is if you have a decent size monitor an a good 5:1 sound system, it needs the big screen and cinema sound and some comfy chairs.
If I knew a contact address I would burn a couple of copies of mine and see how you get on.
The only issue is that of anonymity as whilst we are a pretty friendly bunch we like to avoid giving too much away!
If you have an accommodating friend or relative perhaps I could send them to there!
I will help if I can (I gave loads of copies of the cassette to people complete with the printed label).
Get back to me if you want and please pass my regards to your sister.

Hi Gordon, Many thanks for your response. My sister's replacement copy, like mine, was also not a perfect 'pressing'. I would gladly accept your offer but I wouldn't want to get you into trouble with the Amazon 'police' who probably wouldn't like the idea of illicit copies doing the rounds! As I said in my review, I hope that Dramatico (which I understand is Mike Batt's own label) get their act together and produce some better discs. They must be aware of the issue with so much correspondence about it.
Thanks again for your response and kind offer of help. I'll tell my sister you have been in contact.
