The dangers of ratings,
This review is from: Digital Portrait Photography: Art, Business and Style (A Lark Photography Book) (Paperback)
Before buying this book I read all the reviews, most of which were very positive, except one. I thought he must have been overly critical, but I'm afraid the only dissident is right. The basic tips and advice are ok, but nearly all the photos taken as examples are absolutely awful- old-fashioned and schmaltzy. If they have not been (over-)Photoshopped, they certainly give that appearance. The long-windedness and high opinion the author has of himself also put you off. However, that said, the author seems to know his business, at least on the technical if not the artistic side, and so unlike the other dissident here, I will not be throwing this book away or selling it. But there must be much better books around.
