Stunning collection of short stories.,

This is a collection of Jessica Abel's earliest comics work, including all the short stories and funny pages from "Artbabe" Vol. 1 and a selection of comics journalism that originally appeared in "NewCity". The journalistic strips are all entertaining but Abel really shines with her short fiction. These range from "The Junkie", the story of a young woman's obsession with the lead guitarist of a local band, to "The Ant and the Grasshopper", a warning against letting your friends take advantage of your kindness. These are small, slice-of-life stories, but the emotional impact packed into each one is staggering. Jessica Abel's linework and dialogue are dead-on and she shows a strong understanding of sequential story-telling in these early works. Her second book, "Mirror, Window" is even better...
