1.0 out of 5 stars What are tom-tom up to?, 4 Feb. 2011

This review is from: TomTom GO LIVE 1005 5" Sat Nav with Europe Maps (45 Countries) (Electronics)
I bought this as a replacement for my GO720 which was a great sat nav. I like the new mount and the touch screen but..... nothing else! I can't add my own poi, which was a great bonus with the 720, neither can I upload any updates. So is this a plan for built in obsolescence? When you need a new map or to update features you have to spend another £200? I'm really cross that I wasted my money on this - promises on the Tomtom website for many months now saying that they are working hard to fix things just don't ring true - didn't they actually test whether the 1000 worked before selling them? What were they playing at? I've been a loyal Tomtom customer for many years but unless they fix this really fast they have lost a customer!

I've been a loyal T.T customer for years, but was really unimpressed when my last T.T. 910 had a battery life of about 30 mins before it needed to be plugged in. Now I have to have it plugged in permanently when in use. It also came with UK, EU and US maps. I travel to the US for my holidays every year, and this was a wonderful addition. Not downloaded but it came with the unit.

I was thinking of upgrading to the 1005, but after reading these reviews I will definitely NOT be buying a T.T. 1005. I think TT developers have become very, very LAZY and rather than giving value for money, are now giving us less, but charging us more!!!

I am no mug, and although the saying " A fool and his money are soon parted..." I am NO FOOL.

Tom Tom, get your house in order and start giving us VALUE for money and STOP shafting your loyal customers. For the first time, I am now looking at other SatNav units, because I no longer have the confidence in The Tom Tom Brand

I agree. The last TomTom I bought was the 730 to replace my old 510. Aside from all the crashes, dalek voices, sudden silence until rebooted, extremely poor battery life, and the fact that the FM traffic receiver didn't work out of the box (something that I really wish I knew how I fixed because it's packed in again), most of which were alleviated by always running it on the power adaptor, the thing is just so damned slow. The screen only updates about twice a second and it usually tells me to turn just as I'm passing the turning.

I was thinking of giving them one last chance with this new one but the reviews here have totally put me off.
