Powerful and tense drama,
This review is from: Unthinkable [DVD] (DVD)
Samuel L Jackson and Carrie Ann Fisher are at the top of their game in this powerful drama playing a black ops interrogator and an FBI agent who are brought together to interrogate Michael Sheen's home grown nuclear terrorist. Sheen gives a good performance as the disillusioned nuclear expert who makes and plants three nuclear bombs but his background and motive are never really explored. What is explored is how far decent human beings will go in the pursuit of the knowledge required to save millions of lives. The team have 72 hours to locate the bombs and Jackson's character 'H' will go to any lengths of physical torture contrary to the morals and ethics of Fisher's FBI agent Brodie and this conflict is what provides the backbone of this excellent movie. Some of the scenes are harrowing but they never reach the 'torture porn' levels of 'Saw' or 'Hostel'. There are no weak performances in this film and it is a pleasure to watch something that can be so thought provoking and entertaining at the same time. The DVD is presented in full screen and the print is so good that there is no need to buy the blu-ray.
