This review is from: Panther Vs T-34: Ukraine 1943 (Duel) (Paperback)
To summarize this book briefly: although the Panther was better on paper in most ways (better armor, more powerful gun, more advanced optics) under actual warfare conditions you would be better off with T-34s. I must say I was quite surprised to learn just how 'delicate' the Panther was, at least in its early days. It would continuously break down, Panthers had to be brought almost to the frontline by alternative means of transport a) because of their abysmal reliability and b) because of their gas guzzling engine. The highly reliable diesel powered T-34 on the other hand could self-drive over huge distances and never break down or be left stranded for lack of fuel. All in all my impression was that the T-34s lousy gunnery optics were its only drawback - a pretty major drawback at that, it is of course seriously ridiculous that Russian tank crews' only chance of hitting an enemy tank was by almost crashing into them!
In summary, this is a nice book(let) providing a good, in-depth view of the two subject tanks in just a few pages.
