A good buy,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Microsoft Wireless Desktop 3000 Keyboard and Mouse Set - UK Layout (Electronics)
Despite my almost pathological hatred of Microsoft and it's licensing dictatorship I was in need of a decent wireless keyboard.
From other reviews and through lack of choice (that sounds like Microsoft? ) this one seemed to fit the bill.
Its low profile keys, minimal key travel and the gentle concavity of the keyboard make it very comfortable to use, particularly as I'm usually on a laptop with a similar feel to the keys. It is quiet to use and the quick link keys can be programmed in a number of ways to launch anything you desire them to. More media keys control volume, play, pause etc as one would expect, as well as screen magnification and file function (from the 'F' keys)
Wireless range seem good, with no signal loss at my usual range of 3 to 4 meters. Battery life is also good, Ive not had to change them since purchase and use the keyboard a few hours per day.
A nice comfortable size, programmable 4 button mouse + wheel with click. The USB transmitter fits into a slot along the bottom, depressing a power switch which turns of the mouse when not in use.
This is a very accurate mouse! Not only accurate but it works on any surface I've so far tried it on, carpets, polished furniture, my t-shirt and arm, and even the screwed up material of a duvet cover.
Range is the same as keyboard, possible more as I sometimes use it to control the playback of media on the TV for the kids in the lounge, whilst in the dining room.
This set is currently used for media, browsing and games via the TV in the lounge running win xp and Ubuntu Linux. Almost all the keys function perfectly in Ubuntu 11.04, some may need remapping if you've added/changed apps.
Users of windows7 will find that the keyboard auto installs the key mapping software without prompting.
All in all a good keyboard and mouse, comfortable and quiet and very cheap to boot (I can still see this sold for almost double what I paid here on Amazon).
