Fantastic Sea bound adventures.,
This review is from: Hornblower - The Complete Collection [DVD] (DVD)
If you enjoyed the film, Master and Commander, or read the books of Patrick O'brian and are looking for more, then Hornblower is perfect for you. More high seas adventure and swashbuckling than you can throw a stick at. Considering the lack of a hollywood budget and the fact they were made for TV, this series is just amazing. The navy based equivalent to Sharpe, I would strongly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a bit of action and adventure.
Would also say to shop around, not sure how long it will last for, but have just found it online at HMV for £17.99 in the sale, now that makes it even better.

Wouldn't no what collection to purchase, this one or the one priced a lot dearer and with 8 discs and 30 minutes more run time. The figures here just don't add up.

Bertie Buggerington says:
The runtime difference must have been a mistake. I have the version that comes on 4 discs (currently a bargain for under £12) and the 8 films are not cut in any way. I know this as I had all the originals recorded to DVD from broadcast to compare them with. I don't know what set you were looking at, but if it was American region 1 release then the difference could be due to PAL speed up. If it was region 2, then it was a simple error.
