I believe this knife, or one very similar has been marketed as 'wunderknife' in the states. The design, at least for my needs is useful for much more than bread.
I tend to use fairly high end Japanese knives for most things, but wanted something a little more robust for dealing with squashes, pumpkins and root vegetables. This is the perfect knife for that.
I am a professional chef and find that most guys in my kitchens use the Wusthof Classic Super Slicer for everything; chiffonade of herbs, slicing onions, meat and terrines, but for me it is a little long at 27cm. This knife is a happy medium between the Slicer's versatility and more of a nimble utility/chef's knife.
My only criticisms are htat the handle is a little small (I am tall with big hands though) and the bevel is entirely on one side which causes the knife to 'steer' a little bit when slicing.
But, all in all, a great addition to my knife case.
