This novel explores the consequences of poor communication, addressing it from many angles in an admirably human way. Whether it is keeping wounds open at best, or at worst, (as we discover in this novel) resulting in unexpected tragedy.
I was particularly struck with how the author has been able to reflect on the relative stoicism of the young, and how adaptability to change may appear to decrease with advancing years.
Healing and repair may have come too late for this family - we are left tantalisingly not knowing. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel.
