an excellent account of bipolar disorder,
This review is from: Madness: A Bipolar Life (Hardcover)
As a sufferer of manic depression (bipolar), I found this book to describe accurately, and painfully, the experience of mental illness. Even the style reflects the illness, Hornbacher admitting there are many things she simply cannot remember and so not providing a full flowing narrative, but broken into sections (either of her partners at the time or hospitalisations etc).
At times, it's hard to read, but always worth it and I would highly recommend the book to any fellow sufferer or indeed their support networks (my husband's going to read it next to see what really goes on in my head). An essential read for anyone affected.
