The magic is back!,
This review is from: 4:13 Dream (Audio CD)
As a long time Cure fan who has seen them live many times and owns all their stuff I was looking forward to this album - but maybe just dreading it a bit too. The last self titled album (although brilliant in places with songs like Alt End and Labyrinth) just didn't quite hit the spot and left me feeling a bit disappointed. I can't even put my finger on why, but it did.
However this album is a return to form. I've had it just under a week and listened to it only a few times but I know it's going to be an album I keep coming back to. It really is a gem of an album that has that unique sound that only The Cure can produce (and which I think was slightly missing from the last one). It's that which makes them stand out and makes you love them just that little bit more than any other band.
Song wise, I love Freakshow, it's just so Cure as is The Scream which although so different from Freakshow is again a song which only The Cure could do. It's so menacing! It's great to know your favorite band, 30 years down the line can still produce a fab album as well as play an absolutely wicked gig (Wembley March 08). Please Robert, don't retire, not when you're this good!
