Good introduction by someone who likes his glass of wine,
This review is from: Wine Fact Finder and Taste Guide: Descriptions and Evaluations of All the World's Wines (Hardcover)
If Hugh Johnson's Wine Atlas was one of my early purchases on wine, then Oz Clarke's Wine Factfinder was the very first one I bought. At the time it had the merit to be easy to read and to cover a very wide range of producing countries, albeit rather superficially. I particularly like the fact that it had a nice section on Italian wine. Compared to today's massive encyclopedias about wine, this book could be considered very light and lacking in detail and 1,000's of ratings. However, it still is a nice introduction, and above all with Oz Clarke you really have someone who not only tastes wine but also swallows. The writing transmits the pleasure of someone who likes drinking wine (maybe even one glass more than is politically correct), and not just someone who has made a business out of others who drink wine.
