Entertaining enough, even if its far fetched,
This review is from: The Core [DVD] (DVD)
There are literally hundreds of disaster films out there that are either bogged down by scientific jargo that only stephen hawking and a few Oxford science graduates can understand, or are laden with unoriginal plots and crappy CGI. The core however does not bore us with endless scenes that discuss stuff people don't want to hear, or dissapoint with rubbish FX. Instead the core offers a couple of hours of action packed, tense entertainment that strays in a new direction and centres the story in -well- the centre of the earth, or thereabouts. The story follows a group of people who discover that the earth's core has stopped spinning and soon the entire planet will be ablaze unless they can set the core spinning again. And so, in a high tech burrowing machine, they head into the earth to fix the problem. On the way they encounter countless dangers which make for some very tense and gripping set pieces. Whilst the dialogue may be sometimes clunky, the actors do give good performances.
Overall this film is well worth a watch if you're tired of seeing the same 'meteor heading the earth' or 'tidal wave' disaster films.
