4.0 out of 5 stars The 2012 Remaster- Where are the extra Quad Mixes?, 1 Aug 2012
This review is from: Why Dontcha (Audio CD)
This review is of the 2012 Esoteric remaster. Called the Definitive Master, it certainly is. Far subtler and more like the vinyl than the 2007 Repertoire CD, which was far too loud & forward sounding.. Like all of their Jack Bruce remasters, the Esoteric ones ARE Definitive.

AS for the music its an album of two parts. The Jack Bruce part - 3 songs with Pete Brown; Out into the Fields,Pleasure & Pollution Woman - each which could have graced the marvellous Harmony Row album, and a storming rendition of Willie Dixon's Third Degree which ends with probably rock's greatest ever bass solo.

The other part, the Leslie West & Corky Laing part, is their brand of good time heavy rock & blues - great if you like that sort of thing, but a degree of magnitude removed from the musical ability of Jack Bruce.

Now the gripe to Esoteric! This album was released in a Quadraphonic Mix on vinyl which features 7 tracks with alternate guitar & vocal passages. Why , oh why on a 39min CD could these 7 tracks not be added as bonuses?

The same applies to their remaster of Whatever Turns You On, which again was released with alternate versions & mixes in Quadraphonic ( Check out the French Columbia CD COL 472961 2 for the, probably unintended, release of the Quad Mixes)

And finally the Live & Kickin album could have been extended with extra live tracks from the recorded shows, where Cream & Mountain classics were played.

Deluxe versions from Esoteric anyone?
