This review is from: Poor Economics: Barefoot Hedge-fund Managers, DIY Doctors and the Surprising Truth about Life on less than $1 a Day (Paperback)Too many people view the structure of work in less developed countries through the classifications of developed countries.
The so called 3rd world is not crammed full of entrepreneurs, it is full of people attempting to make a living on the meagre resources that they have to hand. Increasing the resources very rarely makes a significant long term difference to the wealth of the individual and their family.
The final chapters of this book moves towards the right conclusions. The wealth of the poor is dependant upon the society and family structure into which they were born. Notable exceptions can spot opportunities and make a real difference but these 'stars' are rare.
