I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It is well written and easy to read. The plot is a simple one. 29 year old Lola is left a house by her great aunt May. The story is quite simply her efforts to settle into the neighbourhood without becoming too involved with her too helpful neighbours. I think the main theme of her book is really friendship. Her relationship with her long term friends Piper (married with a son) and Hubert ( just broken up with his long term girlfriend) is a friendship to be envied..These three are always there for each other. Her work relationships are far from ideal and beautifully and humorously described. Sibling rivalry is honestly and charmingly displayed during the build up to her younger sister Mindy's wedding. There is happiness and sadness, irritation and anger portrayed. Ms McQuestion is to be admired in that she produced such an excellent book out of more or less everyday life. Her characters are very human and warm and you just wanted to know more about them. The genre of this book is described as humour and there certainly is plenty of that but there is also a nice a warm feeling as you read that makes you realise you have read something quite special. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to escape for a few hours wherever they are.
