This review is from: How the Catholic Church Built Western Civilization (Hardcover)
Venom, hatred, distrust, antipathy, and jealousy have been the hallmarks of much of liberal and anti-clerical criticism to the Roman Catholic Church from the part of those that have truly distorted history in a most impressionable manner.
This book, albeit I pretend more detail for my personal knowledge, is an absolute historical eye-opener on the contribution of the supposedly ignorant, deficient, and oppressive Roman Catholic Church to Europe and Western Civilization.
Buy it, and judge for yourself. You'd be surprised how much rubbish you've been manipulated with in relation to the Holy Church.

B. Downey says:
This hatred of all things Catholic became quite evident in Belgium, Their police seem to have taken lessons on "gestopo" actions with no apology but instead that the police" followed approved protocals. No doubt the same thing could be said of the SS and their simular campaign against the RC Church and the Christianity in general. Considering the actions of Germany towards Catholicism I am surprised that there are any Catholics left in that benighted nation.

I think you're going over the top here. I'm a Catholic myself and am disturbed by much of the unthinking hatred aimed at the Church, but the hierarchy brought a lot of it down on our heads by their constant protection of child abusers. That's what's killing us, not the abuse scandal itself. Had we acted in a proper manner and handed over to the civil authorities those who had been using their offices to abuse children instead of merely moving them from one parish to another, none of this would have happened. By the way, the book is terrific, although a little overstated.

Reichskonkordat - look it up - Catholicism was not targetted at all in Germany under the Nazis
