This review is from: Mccartney (Audio CD)
Paul McCartney's first solo album is a low key affair. Apart from some harmony singing from Linda, Paul did all the singing and played all the musical instruments himself. Some of the songs, like 'Maybe I'm Amazed' and 'Every Night', rank amongst Paul's best compositions, in my opinion. Other tracks, like 'The Lovely Linda', are more like song fragments than fully formed songs themselves. 'The Lovely Linda' is basically just a chorus and a riff. The material reminds me of some of Paul's contributions to 'The White Album', which also included song fragments like 'Wild Honey Pie', and songs such as 'Blackbird' and 'I Will' that featured Paul's vocals and acoustic guitar, and little input from the rest of the Beatles. Interestingly, 'Junk', one of the best tracks on 'McCartney', dates from the time of 'The White Album'. On the whole, this is an interesting and occasionally very enjoyable album.
