Don't Buy Iomega,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Iomega 34939 2TB MiniMax FireWire 800/USB 3.0 3.5 Inch External Hard Drive White (Personal Computers)
I urge anyone thinking of buying an Iomega Product to read this review. All drives have a failure rate, typically 2% and within this some failing sooner rather than later. So the key issue is how the warranty works when this happens. My Minimax drive failed after 1 year of light use.
I contacted Iomega who ran through the issues and stated that they would e mail me a Return to Manufacture Authorisation (RMA). Nothings arrives. I chase up the RMA and an e mail comes saying how I have to send them proof of purchase. So I send this back by e mail to get a reply saying e mail is no good and not proposing any alternative way of submission. So back to the live chat. Operative No.2 now tells me my drive is out of warranty. Strange that it was in warranty 2 days ago and the warranty is for 2 years. We get over that hurdle and I scan and send a copy of my invoice. Once again the operative sates I will get an RMA by e mail. I don't. Instead I receive an e mail requesting my contact details-which I've already submitted by creating a customer account and all my details are correctly available in those contact details. Once again there is no suggested mechanism for submitting the details they already have and the e mail clearly states 'Do not reply to this address'.
Kafka would be proud of this bunch of clowns who clearly have no intention of honouring their warranties! So be warned: do not buy Iomega! Western Digital are cheaper and appear much better made.
