This review is from: You Are What You Eat: How the Food We Eat Is Making Us Fatter, Sicker and Dumber (Kindle Edition)
From the opening paragraph or two of this book you could be forgiven for thinking that human 'canine' teeth are long and sharp and designed for ripping and tearing flesh. The author says the incisors are like that of a chimpanzee. Have you seen a picture of chimpanzee incisors and have you seen a picture of human incisors or looked in the mirror? They are clearly not alike at all and although human's are clearly omnivores our teeth are not particularly designed for ripping and tearing flesh apart - isn't that the reason why we cook meat first, to tenderize it, and isn't that the reason we use carving knives and then our table knives and forks to cut the meat up for us instead of having to use our not-so-sharp teeth? Do we really tear and rip meat with our teeth in comparison to other animals? And are re we really best designed to digest meat? Meat takes a lot of energy and effort to digest whereas some high water content fruit and vegetables can take just twenty minutes. Meat usually takes a very long time and often causes constipation. Yes we can eat meat but are we best designed to eat it as this author so confidently declares we are? Has this man bothered to do proper research? No, Of course not! So first paragraph totally inaccurate - what's the point in going on from there? How many more fundamental 'facts' is he going to get wrong? I did persist but ahhh well....waste of my precious time!
This author for me is not best suited to the role of food investigator - there are good books you could buy on the subject, this is not one of them.
