This review is from: Allotment Gardening: An Organic Guide for Beginners (Paperback)When I first received this book I was slightly disappointed - my initial impression was that there wasn't much to it, and it wasn't going to teach me much that I didn't already know (I've had a small garden for several years, but have just acquired an allotment).
Then I sat down to order my vegetable seeds for the coming year, and realised I had seriously underestimated it. Although I have a range of books, it was this one that I kept coming back to. It's so clearly laid out - crop rotation is presented very straightforwardly, the cultivation of each vegetable is described and particular varieties recommended, advice is offered on soil preparation and fertilisers, etc.
If you're looking for a glossy coffee-table book to browse from the safety of your sitting room, then this probably isn't it. But if you want a really practical guide to help you with your allotment or vegetable patch, then I recommend this very strongly.
