Good value for World maps,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: BT Ultra Slim 4.3" Car GPS System Navigator Sat Nav with Latest UK/EU Map 4GB (Electronics)
This is a nice slim unit about the size of an iPod. In fact, as well as the satnav it has other features built in but I will only comment on the satnav part.
The maps are from iGO and were the 2012 version and covered UK, EU and the US. Basically world maps though this was only being used in Europe. Maps were comprehensive with loads of POI's and had all the details of all the places to be visited. The main drawback was that the maps are 2-D / Birdseye view and not the 3-D / forward view that is common now. But since it is a 5 inch screen, we relied on the excellent voice commands most of the time.
The hardware though takes a bit of getting used to. The most annoying issue is that the touch screen is too sensitive and we found that it was easy to activate it while in a bag or pocket. This meant that when we came to use it, the battery life was low as it had been operating unnecessarily.
Also the time to first fix was too long - 30 or 60 seconds - which would suggest an older GPS chip or a bad antenna.
Having had a number of TomToms, the difference in the hardware is noticeable. However we bought this rather than pay the hire car company the same amount for a 3 day hire. And as we can use it again and again, we're happy we have a unit we can just pop in the suitcase and take on Ryanair without breaking the weight limit.
