This review is from: Ten Great Events in History (Kindle Edition)
This little ebook will give you a rapid tour of ten "great events" in history, at least great from a Victorian-era perspective. The book probably was intended to be utterly conventional, even at the time. These are ten key battles that helped shape "Western Civilisation"; heroism and patriotism are the focus. If updated, one would likely add only the Battle of the Somme (perhaps too depressing) and, intended primarily for an American audience, D-Day (not the Battle of Britain, sorry chaps!). Oh, and "chaps", very much so! Nary a quiver of political correctness sullies its sturdy lips. Why read it? Well, it's nicely written and a good quick review. Politically correct or not, the battles still occurred and very likely did significantly influence the course of Western history. A good read to bright kids, particularly if salted with a bit of modernism. At £0.0, who can complain about the price?
