New Name, Same Old Rhapsody!!,
This review is from: Triumph Or Agony (Audio CD)
When Metallica or Dream Theater release a new album you'll inevitably hear fans saying, "Oh, it's not as good as "Master of Puppets" or ""Images and Words" was their best". You never have that problem with Rhapsody (with or without the 'Of Fire' bit!) - you always get that Rhapsody sound, basically the same as their first album all those years ago.
Don't get me wrong here, I love what Rhapsody do, and this CD is finished to a very high degree - lush orchestrations, loud guitars, pounding drums, lots of luvvies doing their acting bit (including Susannah Yrok and the return of Christopher Lee), and a massive 22 minute piece at the end (the last two tracks run together) - but it would be interesting to see them do something different, perhaps along the lines of guitarist Luca Turilli's solo "Prophet of the Last Eclipse" album, with a more keyboard based sound.
If you're a Rhapsody fan, you won't be disappointed. If they're a new name to you though, I suggest you go back to "Legendary Tales" or "Symphony of Enchanted Lands", the first two albums, and move onwards from there - it's an interesting journey, I think you'll enjoy it! But if your idea of rock music is Status Quo - boy, are you in for a surprise!!
