I was looking forward to this but what a disappointment. Apart from Dexter Gordon this is unwatchable -- leaden acting and no real storyline at all, with the principal character frenetically dashing around in a tantrum. The recording quality of the music is excellent but it's not worth sitting through the rest of it for -- better to buy a CD or download.

J. D. Naylor says:
This is a film about jazz musicians who live and breath jazz and how they struggle for their art. This film is for those who are deeply into jazz and not just a passing interest.

As it happens jazz is not just of 'passing interest' to me and I have been fortunate to see some of the greatest jazz musicians, such as Charles Mingus, Roland Kirk and Duke Ellington. However, I am still entitled to dislike this film for the reasons I have given.
