This review is from: Monsters [DVD] (DVD)This is a film produced, directed and filmed in the same kind of genre as Cloverfield. The special features show that the entire team was less than ten people and the filming done in an 'as it happens' way. Having said that it's good, actually considering that, it's very good but you have to be patient and not expect something it isn't, Independance Day it isn't.
Six years after alien life partially infected Mexico after a NASA probe crashed into a meteor, two people find themselves trying to escape north across the border into the US. The film starts at the end if that makes sense but you don't have a clue what's going on. Long story short an employee is tasked with ensuring that his bosses daughter gets to the US safely when the yearly alien migration happens.
I can see why some people are frustrated by this film but I enjoyed it, just don't expect world shattering special effects or a fast moving story. It's all about the two main characters who are a couple in real life and their journey north, as some have said a bit of a road movie. The filming and acting is good and so are the sfx when they occur. Think B movie Japanese horror but better and you won't be disappointed.
