Compelling but lacks direction,
This review is from: Grey (Kindle Edition)
Grey paints a picture of a psychedelic cyberpunk future, complete with corrupt corporations, ultra-violence, nihilistic fashions and post-modern techno music. While the world is painted in glowing neon-colours and the descriptions move by at 100mph, the plot feels rather directionless and drab by comparison. Michael, the main character is too spoilt and naive to be truly sympathetic and doesn't really do anything for the entire novel except react (badly) to events.
The novel feels like a satire on the excesses of modern life, but never really picks a true target, opting instead to try and deliver a thrilling roller-coaster ride through this future world. It misses more than it hits but interests enough that I will be watching to see what this author can deliver with his next novel.
