This review is from: Sunday Roast: The Complete Guide to Cooking and Carving (Hardcover)
This is a really excellent cook-book, which gets you away from all the Nigella/Jamie "organic thrush's tongue and mango souffle glazed with black truffle oil" stuff and tells you how to cook traditional food really well. We use it most weeks, not only for "how to roast it" but also for tips on carving and what to do with the left-overs (some brilliant recipes). Authoritative, informative, delicious.

I am in absolute admiration for all Clarissa Dickson-Wright's cookery knowledge, having watched the two fat ladies series, purchased Clarissa's game book and read her biography. I can't wait to get her and Johnny's Sunday Roast book. But I feel compelled to comment that Jamie and Nigella are no fuss cooks and I use their recipes amongst others a lot, I think you must have misunderstood them. That is why Jamie was dubbed 'The naked chef' because he cut all the rubbish from recipies and made them simple. As for Nigella, she took the scariness out of baking for me by promoting good ingredients and not baffling me with science.

If this book is "really excellent", why give it only 4 stars instead of 5?
