If you're looking for a USB digital recorder, don't get this one,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Olympus VN-5500 - Digital voice recorder - flash 512 MB - SubBand (Office Product)
Bought this item expecting to be able to transfer the recordings to my computer via a USB cable provided with the product. However the VN-5500 is unable to connect to a computer in any way, shape or form. Amazon have some reviews of the very similar VN-5500PC, which does come with a USB cable, on the same page as the VN-5500 which doesn't. This is exceedingly misleading. Just felt I should inform others so they don't make the same mistake I did.

The lack of the letters 'PC' in the poduct name, and the price, are good indicators of its limitations! But to give it a 1* because you made a mistake when you ordered is not very fair.

Your review is even more misleading than you thought amazon's review was - which it isn't. How stupid to give an outstanding product one star, which could put others off buying the perfect audio recorder for them, just because you couldn't be bothered to check the specifications of a small range for yourself. If in doubt, ring Olympus, as I did just now. Zero stars to you, sir! How on earth 5 out of 6 people could find your review helpful is quite beyond me.

You are reviewing the wrong product here - this is the review section for the VN-5500PC and you are reviewing the VN-5500. If you had bought the VN-5500PC it would do exactly what you are complaining that the VN-5500 doeasn't do. Please don't blame and slander others for your own errors!

Actually, I did find your review helpful, because it alerted me to watch out for this important difference! Honestly, the fact that someone would sell a digital recorder in this day and age that doesn't have usb download capability is something that would never have occurred to me otherwise. 8-0
So thank you for pointing this out. (Am I right in thinking there really is no way to get files off the VN-5500? Not just that you have to buy your own cable? If this is really the case, the mind boggles...)
Thanks again and best regards,

Thx dude! Your comment was life saving. It has never occured to me that this one is without pc cable as I could not imagine a new bike from store coming without the wheels. Anyway marking it one star is very good as it draws attention to the fault. Thx again!
