Noise, Pure Unadulterated Noise from LA,
This review is from: Erect the Youth Problem (Audio CD)
Wives were just pure underground fuzzy noise that put many "hardcore" bands to shame. There's no screaming involved, but the over-distorted squealing guitar more than compensates for the drowned out ramblings.
The album is made up of break-neck speed 80's hardcore style songs that collapse just shy of a blink of an eye. The drumming is what holds these songs together. Though it's short, it does start to get samey towards the end.
Interesting fact...the money used to make this record came from a Backstreet Boy's insurance payment (he smashed into the singer/guitarist's car). Shame then (as you've noticed the past tense) that this band lasted a just under a year before packing it. Check this album out if you love that old skool DC hardcore noise.
